What is commonly called the Internet these days is getting faster all the time, in fact BT has for the last year been trialling a 10 Gig broadband speed to one of its customers in Truro;

You might think that speed is incredible but it is the sort speed that has been connecting telephone exchanges together via fibre optic line transmission systems for some time.
For the average customer it would be very expensive at the moment and also not usable to anywhere near its full potential.
We only use the "Internet" to access sites ( servers ) on the World Wide Web ( WWW ) which was invented by Tim Berners Lee ( Now Sir );
This is an explanation of the WWW;

In the last few days Sir Tim has been pontificating about how such things should progress, so he might be worth a Google search.
Or you can follow him on Twitter, whatever that is;

So better faster Internet technology is on the way for us provided by BT who all the other ISPs rent lines off including Virgin if they are not operating in an area originally cabled by Telewest , and it will come down in price eventually.
Someone will then definitely come up with a useful idea that can use the faster technology and sell it for a profit, next Bill Gates maybe?
Some smart person looking into the future might have a dream that may just work, I don`t know what it will be though, apparently the firm in Truro are still trying to find a use for it.
Plenty of scope for bright ideas I think.
Nice to see a futuristic question though.
Regards, ex BT Bob.
