hi there
are you connecting wirelessly or using a Ethernet(rj45) connection .... anyway whichever your using try the network troubleshooter which will generally fix all network related problems by running a series of diagnostics and tests ( check video below )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqU9H4g1sAs
however you also need to check in device manager to ensure any drivers for your wireless adapter and nic(network interface card ) are correctly installed and working ok .... go to control panel>system>device manager >expand network adapters and then right click each of the devices and then select properties
make sure all devices are "working ok " and if not then click on the box marked "update driver" so windows can update the driver by locating a driver online .....
the updates are failing since they need to be downloaded prior to installation, however since you couldn't connect to the internet then that's why it shows "failed",so essentially you need to fix the connection problem before you can update your pc
have you also checked your router and the hardware ( eg network adapters and Ethernet cables ) .... try restarting your wireless router .... or even better using a pin press the "reset" button on the back of the router which will do many things including :
1) fix any speed related problems
2) also help when wireless devices are refusing to connect ... I have to do this when I want to connect my acer tablet pc or wireless tv streamer ..
so try this ..... make sure your wireless card/network card is working ok ( there should be a small network icon ( monitor with a cable on the right ) and this should be clear of any indicators such as a cross or a triangle error indicator ) .. then go to your wireless router and either reset it ( as directed above ) or do a simple power off/power on loop ...( turn off the router for 20 seconds and then turn it back on making sure all the lights on the front are fully lit )
finally a quick call to your isp(internet service provider ) to make sure your broadband connection is working ok and theres no issues in your area ..... its not unusual for isp,s to do work in your area which may involve network outages for a few hours
I hope this helps ... any questions let me know
good luck !

I am not trying to push you away lady but this is your second question that requires at least a basic level of understanding computers. Judging by your question there are multiple reasons as of what the problem could be because there is not enough info. We could all try to play bingo here and try to guess what the solution could be, but that would be a tremendous waste of time and you will just follow steps without realizing what you are doing. I would suggest you to take some computer courses and learn how Windows works before you head into computers overall. Check your local library. They may have free courses.
