creating a facebook app question?

HI

I am a software engineering student and would like to get in to different platforms. I am undure as to how the facebook platform works.

i went to https://developers.facebook.com/ and registered, i got a text message and its now verified.

I see a button that says create a new app, how does this work, I would like to develop in python but i dont mind c#. c++, java or ruby.
