How do I appear offline o Facebook when using my mobile phone?

I have an Android phone (Huawei U9200) that I use all the time for Facebook however I am unsure how to change my settings to appear as offline. It's not a huge issue but I prefer to appear offline as it gives me more privacy when I just want to scroll through my newsfeed without being interrupted by messages. I do not have messenger installed as I believe it works with your data plan (?) and I don't get that much data as I am prepaid. Does that affect my ability to appear offline? And is that info about messenger correct? I am not too good with technology so any help would be really appreciated! I really have no idea how to change it or how messenger works...please help me, I just want some privacy to enjoy my Facebook time on my own :-) Thank you in advance

The mobile platform of fb has a "CHAT" option..... May be besides the messages option.....there you can TURN OFF CHAT TO APPEAR OFFLINE... Hope it's correct
