Difference Between Blog Commenting And Guest Posting?

I am slight confused with this two topics blog commenting and guest posting. What is the difference between these two off page type and how for its useful?

A general rule, the easier a link is to get the less valuable it will be, search engines recognize that blog comment links can be easy to get, in some cases generated in the thousands by automated software, and are considered to be borderline spam, while an in body link can only be had with direct approval by the webmaster, this, it's being in the context of an article, and it being present the first time the post is spidered all make them more valuable links, they may still be effected by the link-juice dilution effect of too many outgoing links a lot of comments can cause.
