does facebook always show people online when they arent?

I mean I dunno this seems to be happening a lot

The person I talk to uses the facebook messenger app on their phone

they said they are going to sleep and so it showed the log off.

But then Iog on an hour or two later and it says they are online. Yet when I message them then don't read or respond to my message

I told them about it before and they said they check their phone and I guess it stays on even when they aren't actually there

is that true?

No it is not True
After the latest Upgrade and the New Facebook Messenger this is not possible
The only way to be Online is if you are open

The only Other way is that when you are online and go off , some times it take maximum of 5 min to show you off
But they don't respond because they told you they are going off and don't want you to know they are still here

This trick I used more often i tell someone I'm Going and after 10 min when i make sure he is off i get back
and tell him maybe the online is stuck or whatever

Yes That Happens Unless They Log Out Even if they Close the App it Does Not Sign Them Out
