PS3 Troubleshooting No Video?
I have scoured the internet for hours looking for a solution to my problem. Most are resolved by resetting the video settings, but I've tried that and it doesn't work. Here is the issue in detail:

I went to the UK and got a fat ps3, but now I am back in the states. I thought ps3s were region free and had no trouble playing pal or NTSC games on the system when I was in England.

I've tried the ps3 on 3 televisions, 2 hdmi and 1 of the old dino-tvs using a converter box.

When I turn on the ps3 while it's connected to one of the HD televisions using an hdmi cable, I get a black screen that says "format not supported" and nothing while using a component cable.

On the old tv using the converter box the display appears, but the screen flickers and rolls like it is on some kind of reel. I'm using the red, white, and yellow cords when it does this. Using the same cable on the new tvs just shows a black screen.

I've used two different hdmi cables, two component cables, tried resetting the video settings, booting in safe mode, and even removing the hard drive and nothing works.

Any ideas?

Being the PS3 is from UK, it uses PAL signal, so standard A/V (red/white/yellow) won't work on an NTSC TV.

So HDMI is the only universal connection which will work on an HDTV. However, the TVs have to be able to support HDCP. If they don't, it won't work. It is rare nowadays, but some HDTVs don't have HDCP.

On that note, for HDMI connection, you have to make sure the TV is on the proper video input (HDMI, Video 1, etc.) for the HD connection. Make sure everything is properly connected. Then you need to do the Video Reset on the PS3. With the PS3 off, hold the power button for about 5 seconds, 2 single beeps.

If nothing works, then it could very well be the HDMI port on the PS3 is shot and there's no fixing it. If that's the case, then you'll either need to get a PAL TV, or get a PAL to NTSC converter to use the standard A/V cables.
