How can I keep my recent fan pages on Facebook from going to my friends news feed?

I like to join fan pages on Facebook, but my friends are starting to complain about me "spamming their news feed" with the recent fan pages I have joined. Is their any way I can keep it from happening without me having to stop 'becoming a fan'? Please help, it would be gratefully appreciated.

After you join, go to your profile page. On your wall, you should see a post saying "___ became a fan of ___". If you hover the mouse over this, a delete button should appear next to it. If you delete this, you will still be a fan, but it won't show up on any of your friends' pages. I don't think there is a setting which lets you disable this activity being posted, but I could be wrong.
