what's it like working on Amtrak trains?
Let's say I have a job working for Amtrak in the dining car. How do my hours work? Is it 8 hours a day and the rest is free time? How long are contacts? Do I work continuously on the train for a full contract? Essentially living on the train for one month, then getting a month off and so on?
Thanks for the help!

You DO NOT live on the train for weeks at a time. You have a schedule. They are not identical across the country. You start at your base go out and at some point you return on the same route.

It could be daily return trips or many day in each direction.

Do you work continuously for your contract.? Yes your contract will have the specifics for you.Is it 24 hours a day no. Do you get days off yes. Do they have short term and long term contracts YES.

I guess the thought of actually asking Amtrak escaped you.

If you are working in the DINING car where else would you expect to work if not on the train?
