Can you get IP address?

I have this person on Facebook messaging me through a fake profile. Saying mean and nasty things about my wife. It's really put her down. I want to find out who is behind it. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Just report them to facebook and block the person.

There is no way to trace an IP through Facebook. Just report the profile then block them

there is no way to find out who it is, not even if you could get their IP address as that would only tell you the general city they live in - it's not like an IP will give you someone's home address or anything if that's what you think

HI you can easily trace the ip address of person in facebook just when chatting with him .Follow the steps given below .
1.First invite or ping that person for a chat on facebook .
2. Make sure your all other tabs in browser and other services in computer are closed. If Possible for you then delete all the cookies-cache and browsing history from your browser.
3. While chatting on Facebook go to Start >- Run >- cmd .
4.After Opening command Prompt Type netstat -an command and hit Enter.
5. Now you will get Ip Address of all the established connections there .
After finding the ip address you can easily trace the location of that person just by doing whois search for that ip address using sites like http://www.whoisxy.com/ they will display details like ip location ,net name ,address and so on but you can't find the exact home address of that person from his ip address you can just trace the ISP address from ip address .
