What kind of warfare do people expect to see in a 20th century magical setting?
I m no good at plotting and I tend to get so lost when I go into writing the story straightaway.
So now i m trying to write a timeline for all the major events (wars and revolutions) before I start writing.

1. Does writing a timeline for your fantasy story help you?

2. What kind of warfare do people expect to see in a 20th century magical setting? is it realistic to have guerrilla warfare? Say a major war takes places around 1990 - 2010 in a magical setting, what would it be like?
Is it still realistic to have a completely bloody, violent (WW2 style) grand-scale civil war taking place in 1990 in a relatively semi-developed country(say china, korea)?
for further clarification of this point, by bloody and violent i mean like really gory, almost george rr martin style, but with more advanced technology, faster pace (due to more advanced technology) and secret activities taking place (like mission impossible style).

3. Do readers feel something is off, if i try to combine technology and magic, e.g. my wizards use mobile phones with magical functions, or use the internet powered by magic, and they own robots who are controlled by magic and can use simple magic?

thanks for reading! will appreciate any thoughts on this.

1. I think it's a good idea, if it'l help you get your bearings and make the world feel more real.
2. Violent magical warfare is an interesting concept, and depends largely on the peoples' level of advancement. I'd say you've got a pretty good idea already, WWII-style death tolls with magical machines and fantasy elements. For inspiration, I suggest reading some of the League of Legends lore, Artemis Fowl, or the Looking Glass Wars Trilogy
3. Magical technology is, in my opinion, very cool, and the more creative you can make it, the more interesting your world will be. Cell-phones and internet powered by magic is a really cool idea, but you need to make sure you give them their own names and styles, so you're not just inserting "magic" into real-world ideas. For example, in The Looking Glass Wars, which is a re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland, turning it into a war of Imagination in an alternate dimension, they communicate using magic Looking Glasses (like in Alice Through the Looking Glass), and can even travel from mirror to mirror by using a parallel dimension that connects them called the Crystal Continuum. Magical automata (robots), are a very common idea in creative fiction, usually with clockwork brains and bodies for more aesthetic appeal. The more wild and ingenious the magical tech, the more intriguing and cool your world will be!
