Questions about iPod touch internet connection...?

My son recently got an iPod from someone, I know that it has internet capabilities with a wireless internet connection. If I were to get a wireless router at home could he connect to the internet?

Is a wireless router all I would need?

If not, what would I have to do for him to be able to connect to the internet from home?

yes a wireless router will turn any dsl/ cable connection into wireless internet that can be used on ipod
