Internet Explorer alternative for Mac?
My workplace uses a company called Proxus for the payroll, and we can only use it in Internet Explorer. If I use Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, it does not even let me login. I know that IE was ditched years ago, but is there something just like it that i could install on my Mac? I tried using VirtualBox, but it didn't install correctly. I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5. It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to be able to check my pay stubs from my Mac instead of having to take a screenshot of it at work, then emailing to myself to open at home.
Thank you everyone! I downloaded Google Chrome and installed the User Agent Switch extension. It works like a charm, and is perfect since i only need IE for this one website. : )

Yay! A really fun solution awaits! (trying to use internet sarcasm)

You need to install BootCamp to run Internet Explorer on a Mac. Bootcamp is literally just Windows, but for use only on a Mac. It's another operating system that your computer can use whenever you want (if you start up your computer and hold Command and R you can choose to open your Mac into OSX Lion or Windows 7).

Windows 7 comes with Internet Explorer out of the box and you can get Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 as well, although I don't know which version of Internet Explorer your workplace uses.

Otherwise, if you want a simple solution, and I reccomend this if you just don't want to ever run Windows period, is to (in Chrome) install User Agent Switch for Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...g?hl=en-US

When it installs, go to the site you need to use, click on the icon that the link i sent above puts on Chrome (if you install it) and select Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, or 9, depending on what version of Internet Explorer your work uses.

Hope this lengthy answer helps! Email me at neonathan12@gmail.com if you have any other questions or concerns

Actually, there is a complicated way to do this that is sure to work, and a simple way to do this that is very likely to work.

The complicated way is to install a genuine copy of Windows under Bootcamp or one of the virtualisation packages (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion), which will give you a genuine version of Internet Explorer. It'll also impress your colleagues, especially if you go down the virtualisation route, that you can run Windows on your Mac.

The simple way is to get your web browser to lie about its identify. Technically, you get it to report a false User Agent identity. That is, you get Safari, for example, to claim to be Internet Explorer.

In most cases, sites that insist on Internet Explorer don't actually need Internet Explorer and will run quite happily elsewhere, it's just that the developer can't be bothered to code their interface for the few cases where browser dependency matters. Try setting a false User Agent, and bear in mind that it might not work if the site genuinely uses Internet Explorer specific code. Also, bear in mind that lying to the host site might break things. It's a little easier to do in Chrome, as the functionality is more accessible. Here are some links that might give you some things to try.
