Was this a date or just hanging out?! Dinner and movie?

So, I decided to be assertive and I asked my crush if he wanted to "hang out" with me. He agreed and we decided on Saturday. So we agree on watching a movie and he offers to get dinner beforehand. I thought we would go to a burger joint or something simple but he took me to a restaurant. He let me order whatever I wanted and even offered me his drink here and there. I had my own drink but he still wanted me to drink from his so we shared the straw. He asked me "What did you tell your parents when they asked you what you were doing tonight?" which confused me because that's when I realized maybe he didn't think it was just hanging out. He paid for my meal and movie ticket. He let me choose the movie and seats. While in the movie our arms were touching the whole time and he kept turning towards me to talk with our faces close together and we just smiled a lot with each other. He didn't hold my hand but he did fidget with the same hand that was next to mine and seemed nervous but he kept our arms in contact and even nudged me a few times playfully. During conversations, if he mentioned a girl friend of his he kept clarifying how they were just friends and he wasn't interested in them. He also showed me his snapchats and instagram pictures while we waited for the movie. Again, if a girl was in any picture he explained that it was only a friend. When he dropped me off home he gave me a tight intimate hug and told me I smelled good. So do you think he thought it was a date?
