How to share internet connection in LAN?
I have connected two computers successfully using cross over cable and I share data with no problem and I don't know why I'm not able to share the internet as well.

The configurations I have made on the host computer to share the internet connection with client computer are as follows:

1. Right click on the internet connection->Properties->advanced tab and then marked the items under Internet sharing.

2. then on the client computer, opened tools->Internet Options->connections tab->LAN Settings there I marked the automatically detect settings.

And It still didn't worked on for the client computer and on the clien computer I removed the mark from the "Automatically Detect Settings" and marked the second item below it and filled the IP address of the Host computer (192.168.0.1).

And it is still not working. Please help me and reply fast.

you can use windows internet sharing or use proxy server such as wingate.
you can also use softwares that support NAT(network adderss tranlation) such as Kerio winroute firewall or microsoft ISA server.

Sorry but the easy way to share a LAN is using a router.
You can try other ways and spend a lot of money trying to be creative when a netgear router only cost $34.00. Even a Belkin router can be found under $20.

Make it easy on yourself, install a router with a firewall.

When you used the internet.wizzard (from start button, run, inetwiz) did you click on the LAN connect instead of the dial up connect? And are you connecting via dial up or cable modem?
I dunno, I had a lot of similiar problems but eventually resolved it by creating several different hardware profiles. In your case you could make a profile to do what you are doing now, and then create another profile without using the cable direct connection to the other computer, which then you would simplify the internet connection as it would be merely a normal matter of using the regular installation all IPS usually provide software for getting online with? The drawback of course, it would mean that you would not have access to the internet via both computers while in the internet profile you built for yourself to get online with.
However a cheapie $10 manual switchbox (for the telephone cord to connect to the internet, or the ethernet cable cord if connecting via lan) it could enable you to use the connection on either machine, merely by configuring the separate profile for that on each machine, but they could not both be on at the same time connected to the net that way. Then after you downloaded to one computer, you could transfer the data via the parallel connection you presently have by merely rebooting and selecting that profile for windows to boot into.

For my money though a direct cable connection is rather useless unless you are using that for playing multiplayer games on, offline one computer to another? If not, instead of loading up my computer with the extra code to have that direct connection installed, I use a USB external hard drive that can be hot swapped from one computer to another.
For under $100 bux you can get one of those, and that is a much more efficient way of transfering data computer to computer. And for smaller amouts of data, you do not even need an external hard drive, I noticed that the closeout houses and or discounters (like tiger direct) they sell USB flash drives and or the new windows media players with an imtpressive 1 Gig capacity, which is enough to merely transfer files, even the whole windows basic operation system in fact, if it was put into the ISO format!

Also I have one of those cheapie manuel usb switchboxes (from cyberguys) which then allows me to merely turn a switch, I do not even have to unplug and plug the usb connector cable from computer to computer, just merely flip the switch. Which if you do go with the external hard drive solution, that would be advisable to look into for yourself.

However, if you are using a usb cable modem via a lan connection to get online, then be advised that the usb cable modem must be installed BEFORE the usb external drive, because if you install the external usb drive first, then the usb cable modem, then later remove the drive and reboot, the modem driver becomes confused, and you have to reinstall it all over again every time you reboot. But if you install the usb modem first, then the usb drive acts fine and will not mess anything up when hot swapped.

Also, I reinstalled windows so may times I got tired of cursing, before I stumbled on the fact that you can merely reconfigure the windows components via a wizzard, which is much faster and better than reinstalling the whole damned operating system every time I messed up my network connections, which usually is pretty frequent. In win 2000 that wizzard is accessable from the dialog where you remove the software that is installed, but you must click on the windows components button to get it.

But by removing components, then rebooting and re-adding them back in again, that wizard corrects some mistake you made as you tried some unorthodox method which confused the even more unorthodox monstrosity Gates created called the windows operating system.
