Need help connecting computer to internet?
For the past few years we've gotten internet from the phone company cricket. They gave us a usb modem that plugs into the computer, a prompt pops up on the screen and we push connect and we're connected. We just got Comcast internet primarily for a game system and thought why not use it for computer too. So we drilled through the wall to run an Ethernet cable from modem to computer. The modem has 4 ports on the back allowing 4 devices to be hooked up. Well I plugged the computers Ethernet cord in and can't figure out how to get it to connect. I went into control panel set up new network chose broadband entered the provided network name and password but it won't take it. The computer is an hp pavilion p6313w running on Windows 7. I'll go to connect to the internet, create a new connection, choose the broadband option, put in the user name password press connect abd it says there was an error and it'll try again in 2 minutes

When you plug modem into computer have you clicked the Internet Access Icon and Disconnect it and then click Auto and click Connect. It may been only connecting Limited [ which means no Internet connection] so have to connect it up again either that or reset your modem by little button on it.

have you configed the modem
on internet explorer adress bar type 192.168.1.1
username and password are both "admin"
then choose braodband connection (pppoe)
give the user name and password that isp gave you.
and also give vpi and vci numbers that is defined by your isp.
now by turning the machine on u r connected to internet.
dont forget to delete the connection you have made in control panel before all

other way is to choose brdige connection in modem config wizard (192.168.1.1)
in that case u need to create a connection on windows control panel (the broadband connection you just have made) and connect through that
