Why can't I zoom in on facebook on my ipad anymore?

This is not a problem with your iPad. For reasons yet to be disclosed, Facebook has made changes to their site to disable the zooming feature of the iPad. They may think they're doing it to embarrass Apple but they're actually at war with millions of visually impaired people who use the iPad as an assistive device for Web browsing. This is not something that can be done accidentally. It requires a specific meta tag in the head section of an HTML page. This was done on purpose in an attempt to piss off iPad users and make them think Apple is at fault. They are not. This is a deliberate attack by Facebook on its users.

I am having the same problem. I called Apple and they said it has to be a problem with Facebook.
I installed the free ap for IPod and you can read it better.

As a work around:

System Preferences/Universal Access/Seeing Turn the Zoom feature ON. You can click Options You can set range for rapid zooming in and out.

I know exactly what is causing it.

In Safari on the Mac, enable the developer menu. change your user agent to iPad,

Open Facebook.com. View source. Search for user-scalable=0
that is the exact code which is causing this problem. It is instructing iPad safari to not allow zooming.

Now go back and change the user agent back to desktop safari. Reload Facebook and view the source code. The user-scalable=0 line is gone.

The only workaround is to use Atomic Browser on the iPad and change the user agent to something else like desktop Safari.

If anyone has a contact at Facebook please let them know about this immediately as is is ruining the facebook experience for iPad users.

Well that's just dumb. And I tried the Atomic work around... Still couldn't get it to work. Did anyone?

If you are upset by Facebook's action in the regard - please speak up! You can submit your dismay to Facebook at:

If enough of us complain they will hopefully rectify this problem.
I for one do not particularly like the Facebook app (which is not designed for the iPhone and not the iPad) - I find the resolution on the iPad bothers my eyes as I read.
