Why do people hate ted mosby?

I just started watching how I met your mother and after a little internet search was surprised to find how much hate Ted mosby gets?

Seriously Ted is the most thoughtful, nice, caring guy on the show. He has time for all of his friends. Doesn't appear to be a womanizer like Barney and yet there are hate groups for him on Facebook, news paper articles rating him as one of the most unlikable characters on the show. His only character flaw is being too nice.

What is wrong with people?
I'm talking before the finale. The hate groups started way before the end of the show.

This is possibly because of the controversial issue with the series finale that aired last week. I really don't get why people hate ted so much either.

I think it's because of the way he pines after Robin again and again despite her not being interested or a good fit for him. A lot of fans hate the whole Ted and Robin thing. They were also really disappointed with the controversial ending, without spoiling it (not sure that's possible), therefore leading them to dislike the character because of where he ultimately ends up. But don't be confused, I am a Ted fan, I can just see now stuff like that would annoy people.
