Be patient, there is an overwhelming backlog of submissions the volunteer reviewers have to examine. There has been talk of some corruption, if you get some email proposal related to the category you submitted to it may be a veiled bribe request.

Some categories are more active than others, if nothing you may have to resubmit in a new category, someone has suggested that if the mascot character at the bottom of the page is customized the section may be more active.

1. Have a site that is worthy of listing. It has to have some content/info that those already listed does not have. DMOZ wants unique content. What is the point in adding yet another site that just repeats content that is already listed.

2. Submit ONCE to the ONE best category (any more than once is likely to harm your chances)

3. Write a guidelines compliant title and description. Read the guidelines and read the descriptions of sites already listed.

That is all you can do, There is nothing more you can do. Resubmitting will harm your chances. No point trying to contact an editor. Get on with your life. A DMOZ link or not will not make or break a site. After you have submitted your site, focus your energy on other things rather than obsess over DMOZ, let alone whine about it.
