The same way you upload photo, but it won't animated as FB don't allow this. If you see animated pic outside FB, you could copy the url, then paste it in your status update, it might be shown animated there or if they click the url, they'll be brought to that outside url.

One emoticon Page in FB is https://www.facebook.com/GIF.Animated.Picture; you can share theirs into your status update.

copy past is the best process to do it.
But if this will not work then going to help option and write this to Facebook.
