Internet Connection Troubles?
As the title suggest my home Internet connection is in trouble in that its saying my computer is connected, meanwhile my various programs (more than just the browser) are unable to connect to the intarweb. After checking the connection (the cables), turning off the firewall, and attempting to "repair" the connection, my computer still remains incapable to connect!!

What I'm overlooking and what can I do to fix the situation?

If any additional information is needed I'll add, and again thanks in advance for the answers!
Edit1: I believe I have a DSL connection (unsure w/ the computer lingo), and as previously mentioned it is a wired connection (not wireless) thx for the responses : )

Is your internet connection working? Did you check it with another machine. If not then do so and call your ISP.

It sounds like you hit everything. You may want to eliminate anything between you and your modem (hubs, switches, routers) and use a different ethernet cable. Sometimes the cables become damaged (not that frequent). More often small shorts will occur in the modems. You may wish to swap receptacle the modem is connected to for power to one on another circuit.

Other than that you might want to just create a new admin account and try setting up access from there. Put as much data as you can in your local settings and on the premise equipment.
