The internet connection is not slow nor is the computer. Any ideas as to why the mail program is slow?

Yahoo Mail has been stuck in suck-eggs mode for weeks. We are all suffering and cursing. There is nothing you can do. It's their issue and they don't seem to care about fixing it–– or more likely, aren't qualified to fix it.

After Marissa Mayer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marissa_Mayer got hired as CEO (moved over from Google), she thought she could light a fire under the engineers at Yahoo to redesign everything and surpass Google in popularity. She didn't figure on the group of engineers at Yahoo being at the root of the problem. Until Yahoo hire about 20 top notch engineers, her plans will remain a pipe dream. :~(((
