No. It is not true.

What is true is that Windows XP is no longer supported after 8th April 2014. So whichever browser you are using on it after that time is not supported.

All support for XP, and that includes IE-8 will end on that day. You can use any browser you wish. You are not limited to chrome. Firefox will still be available. Read this.
