anyone remember the old FB privacy setting?

Anyone remember the old Facebook privacy setting back in 2008 before they changed it in 09? Back in the old days, when you can't see someone's profile, then when you click on them, a small window pops up that give you the option to either "add as a friend" "send a message" or possibly view friends list, along with a thumbnail of their profile pic. Remember?

Back in the old days, if you set it so that people who are not your friends can view your profile, then they automatically can see your profile pic and send you a message right? I mean, I remember you can only prevent people who can't see your profile from sending you a message, but once you allow them to see your profile, they can automatically see your message is that right?

Compared to now, where everyone can see "your profile", but you get to limit what they can see or do.

I need someone to confirm. Thanks
