LInksys WRT54G2 wireless router giving no Internet connection -- HELP!!?
Hi-

I reset my Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router by pressing the reset button on the back for 30+ seconds. Afterward, I changed the router settings by connecting to 192.168.1.1 (with default password "admin"), where I changed the following: 1) password, 2) SSID, 3) Wireless Security to WPA2-Personal with AES algorithms and a personal WPA key.

I entered these settings into my wireless connection settings on my laptop, which has built-in wireless adapter (and runs Vista). I also have a desktop PC (Vista) connected to the router via Ethernet (and the router is connected to the DSL modem with Verizon service). Both the laptop and the desktop can connect to the router, but here's the problem. They have local connections; there is no Internet connection.

I know that the problem does not lie in the modem as connecting directly to the modem via Ethernet enables Internet connection. I have also shut everything down and rebooted in the order: modem, router, computers. But no luck. Therefore, I'm thinking the problem lies in the connection between the modem and router. Before resetting the router, everything was running smoothly: laptop and desktop accessed the Internet via the router. However, after resetting (for which I had good reason of doing), no Internet.

I'm not sure whether I have configured the router settings properly for it to recognize the modem (and vice-versa) or what. So, any suggestions on how to get my Internet back through the router connection?

Thanks.

Try connecting with encryption off. WPA2 is sometimes not supported. You can also try WPA-PSK TKIP as an alternative if thats the case.

you have to take the Ethernet cable out then there should be a yellow Ethernet cable that plugs into the modem and the router the you have to go to controle panel to set up a wireless conection then you put in the passphrase into thesecurity part

Looking at what you said you did after reseting the router it does not show anything for setting up your internet connection.

If you are using DSL usually you would choose PPPOE and type in the username and password you would use to connect to your isp.

If you are using cable then usually you would choose Dynamic IP.

Also this is a known bug in vistaa if you have not upgraded to SP1. Make sure vista is fully updated.
