You can make good money at anything online, but it takes a long time and is very competitive. The first step would be to start some kind of a blog and get it to rank well.

One of the most important and difficult questions when starting a career is deciding where to work. In SEO choosing a good first role is essential as it will form the basis of what you will learn and what sort of work you will be exposed to

If you have a passion and an interest in it yes of course!

Age is just a number, and 27 is still very young. I am 37 and would not think twice about starting a new career if I wanted to.

Why not? But you need to keep few things in mind -

1) Before you quit your current job, you have sufficient industry knowledge of SEO. Don't even think that you will study it after quitting your present job. It may happen that you may find it less interesting when it gets into in-depth analysis works.

2) You must understand that ranking of a site depends upon number of factors which are not directly in your hand. This makes SEO job little risky and unpredictable. You need to have the ability to convince your client about your work and possible outputs of your efforts.

3) Lastly you need not quite your present job at once. You can start working initially with 2-3 hours per day and later when your business picks pace and you have accumulated enough clientele you can resign immediately.

Hope my answer is useful to you. All the best!
