Internet connection problem: uTorrent problem? Details in description. Please help!?
So, basically I installed Utorrent on my new windows 8 HP ENVY laptop and am experiencing serious issues with my internet:
When I open up my desktop and try to access the internet, it just doesn't connect or times out. I can guarantee this isn't due to my modem or internet, because my secondary computer, well, is what I am using to write this. So, I believe the problems are caused due to uTorrent because I had internet connection on my laptop today until I started downloading on uTorrent. It said: "Downloading Metadata" then didn't progress for a few minutes so I stopped the torrent and removed the torrent and data. All of a sudden I couldn't use the internet and worse; I couldn't seem to uninstall uTorrent because it seemed to be open somehow all the time! The whole problem may have been due to the maximum download speeds settings I used.

I'd open up my user account and try to uninstall uTorrent by deleting the .exe file and it would state:
"The action can't be completed because the file is open in uTorrent. Then I'd pull up Task Manager and see "uTorrent (32 bit)". I'd think to myself: "hmmmmm maybe I have the wrong bit version installed?" and try to end the backround process. This was of course to no avail. The thing refused to end no matter what I did! I didn't have uTorrent set to open on startup and I'd double, no, triple checked this to make sure this isn't the cause.

Luckily I have managed to uninstall uTorrent but am still facing internet connection problems. Could it be my ISP banning my IP because I was using torrents? This comes up as a logical observation because my ISP has blocked the primary site "www.thepiratebay.se" and I had to use other websites pirate mirrors. There is a list here: "http://proxybay.info/" Anyway, I am sure my laptop is connected to the right modem. Do I need a proxy app to trick my ISP?

Therefore, currently I can't access the internet on my new laptop and I need help. Any help would be gratefully accepted. And just another thing: I'm sure this uTorrent is legit as I downloaded it from the official website. I you need any more details, you are but a question away. If you have any knowledge on the matter please answer.

Thanks in advance,
Ronan
Thanks Claire but I can't confirm yet, as I've gotten to the IPV4 configuration but when I select to use a custom IP, it asks me to also supply a DNS server address manually. This is compulsory. I don't know what to do for this. Is it contained within the cmd I just used? Thanks for the help so far, but how do I do this??? Thanks again.
Thanks Claire but I already have the Google DNS set now and I still have no connection. I can try the firewall but it's controlled by McAfee which is extremely annoying. Sorry about bugging you :/
I can't disable my firewall because it is controlled by McAfee and \i can't open up my LiveSafe hub Sad I am completely clueless and have tried making inbound rules for Internet Explorer. I need help...

I don't think the problem is with your ISP. Since your other laptop is working, I would suggest you check edit network configurations on your Windows 8 box.

Go to your other laptop and follow the guide:

1. Opening up Command Prompt. A real quick way of doing this is by pressing down on the Windows button on the keyboard plus 'R', at the same time.

2. You should get a black window. Type in 'ipconfig' without the quotes and note down the IPv4 address, the Subnet Mask address, and the Default Gateway.

3. Now you want to go to your Window's 8 box, fire up control panel and navigate to your Network configuration tab.

4. Now follow the following guide: http://www.techieshelp.com/change-networ...windows-8/

The trick is to change the very last bit of your IPv4 address on the Windows 8 box by just one digit.

Let's say the IPv4 address you got from your other laptop is 192.168.47.102, on the Windows 8 machine, change the last digits to 103 or 104 or 105.

However for the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway, keep all the original values.

let me know if it works

Sorry, forgot to mention about the DNS. Use Google's DNS addresses, they are free.

The first address is 8.8.8.8
The second address is 8.8.4.4

Check out your firewall settings also. Make sure your firewall allows your computer to make outbound connections.

Just follow the link I supplied. It will take you to Microsoft's website. Follow the steps and your connection should be up in a few.

Once you turn off your firewall and check your internet connection, do not forget to turn it back on. Just allow your NIC card to make outbound connections. All should be fine.

CAUTION: The link provided by Yatendra will try and download an adware on your box. DO NOT ClICK IT

Don't worry about it. Am glad to help out where I can :-)

Go to your control panel and look for system and security.

Here you can switch your Firewall on or off. Try switching it off first and try connecting to the Internet. If it fails fire up your Command Prompt as I showed you earlier and type this without quotes: "ipconfig/release" Follow this by typing in your command prompt "ipconfig/renew" without the quotes.

Then try and reconnect to the Internet.

If this fails, then we will have to reset your Firewall on your Control Panel. Just look for a link labeled "Restore to Default". Click on it.
