How can you stop people from adding on facebook or stop scamming you?

It is very easy to stop people scamming you. All you need to do is turn on your brain instead of being greedy. GREED is why people get scammed. Nothing is free.

go to privacy settings and modify it to where only people you know can add you and if people who arent your friends it goes to the "other" message in box

First of all, make sure your Facebook profile is set to private. You should not have a public profile anyway for your own safety and to protect your identity. There is NO reason why any random stranger should be able to see your pictures, your friends, your personal information, your status, etc.
Second you NEVER accept a friend request from anyone you have not met in person. There is no reason to add random people - if someone you don't know tries to add you, ignore it

The only way to stop scammers is to be educated about scams. Never accept friend requests from people you don't know. Never give out your full name, address, birth date or other personal information to anyone you don't know. If anyone you meet offers you money or asks for money, they are scammers
