This stranger messaged me on fb...how to respond?

Okay so about half an hour ago I logged onto fb. This guy messaged me saying "wat up boss". I don't know him that well. We have a mutual friend which was my friend who I haven't spoken to since the first grade! Looking from his fb, he seems cute and outgoing. However I'm very shy and the fact that he's a stranger makes it even worse. Do I reply or just ignore it?

I've made friends with plenty of people on FB but them I'm a guy. Be wary. He's probably ok but there's no telling. If you're worried just ignore him. He can't spell properly anyway !
