Adolescents are leaving the safety of their families and looking for validation that they are worth knowing. For those who are tormented by a bully it can touch that part of them that wants to be liked. Everyone that age wants to belong. I have seen teenagers bullied in front of teachers on a daily basis, bullies are sly and manipulative. Often anti bullying policies in the schools blames the victim, they are out of date and often cause more problems. It is an excellent idea to have out of school activities so a new group of people can be mixed with. Facebook is in your room at home, it can feel like the world is against you if they are picking on you.

It's a good question. I saw a question the other day from some young girl wanting to know how she could get a few hundred more 'likes' on her face page or twitter or something. It's very sad that their sense of belonging and identity requires to be reinforced by 'likes' from people they don't even know.

I think it's interesting that QLD has actively discouraged teachers from having facebook accounts - it makes for a lot of dreary rubbish apparently. Quite right. I know that if I had young children, I wouldn't be letting them have facebook accounts until well into their teens (if ever), and the condition would be that I had access to this account at all times, so I could see what was going on.

What drives a teenager or any young person to take their life?
It has probably nothing to do with Social media, it probably has more to do with their family dysfunction, social dysfunction, kids growing up tooooo fast, hormones in the food we eat ??? the list is endless !
People will always be bullied, at any age, in teenagers its hard,
"it takes a village to grow and support a child"
@Mr Alphabet, our world is full of Nerds, like Bill Gates etc who control YOUR world, being a geek has become a world idea, Geeks RULE!!!!
