My boss added me on FB, is this a bad idea?
My boss at work added me on facebook. Problem is, I am an avid FB'er and I have it on my phone which leaves me signed in all day. My boss is the type to confont me if she sees that my status is on there, I hate I accepted her now and am now re thinking the decsion to have her on there, if I delete her, she will know. Lately other co -workers have mentioned regretting adding her also, b/c info has been used against some. My boss and I go back about 10 years when we worked for another company and we were in the same postion so we did sort of have a friendship. I also use FB for networking, and as a single mother to check on my children through the say since my job does not allow me accsess to a phone. I fb on breaks and lunch as I am unable to pull out my phone in front of a patient and check it. What do you think about this ugley situation

It is definitely a bad idea to have your boss as a FB "friend". Since you can't change that now, use the privacy settings to limit what she sees. Set it so she doesn't even see your updates or wall posts or pictures. It can appear to her that you are never on there at all. If she asks about being signed on all day, just tell the truth about it being on your phone.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to rethink your priorities. Do you realize you are doing the same thing to your kids as your boss is to you (using FB to "spy" on people)?

Anyway, you're not going to fix everything overnight, and there are many sketchy "solutions" that [silly] people are going to suggest, so I recommend that you ask your boss for a meeting, and explain your situation. Be honest and forthright, though; smart, talented people CANNOT STAND weasel behavior (and don't be naive, it is obvious as hell, IME), and if your boss is one such perceptive person, it will only make things worse for you. Since you and your boss have a good history, she will probably want to figure out a way to make things work, even if they are not ideal.

If she understands that FB is the most client-friendly (at your work place) method to keep tabs on your kids, then you're just going to have to do what you claim, and keep your nose clean. Maybe create a second profile for "carousing", if that's what the "problem" is.

hmmmmm....well, why don't you inform your close friends that you'll be making another account on FB then you can ask them to send you a request on that account. Then your boss would have absolutly no idea about your status!!
then u can play it safe and friendly and manage both accounts and your boss wont have the slightest idea because there are like a hundred ppl with the same name on fb!!
good luck!!
Wink
