Setting up a 2nd router, suggestions on which mode for my situation.?
I am in a house and both router + Modem are in a housemates room. I get crud wifi ever since they moved the router from the living room to their room.
I get 1-2 bars, crazy lag in game (spikes to 999 ping) and it is just unbearable to play as I just freeze in place. I have a couple questions to ask in this,

I assume that both their wired connections playing their games, skype, etc. is eating up all the internet which is hurting the rest of the house on wifi. We get over 15+ clients on wifi from the various devices hooked up but it hasn't been a problem until they moved it in and used wired.

My personal solution is using my TP-LINK TL-WR702N Wireless N150 Travel Router on Repeater to extend the range into my room. (it supports AP (default), Router, Repeater, Client, Bridge)
Searching it up I've read using repeater cuts my bandwidth in half.

I'm not sure what to do, am I able to set this up in AP mode with an ethernet wall plug? Will Repeater mode be my best bet?
Tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Repeater will do its work so if you are capable of trying your best method , I suggest you try all of them and keep the most clean results.. (Lowest ping will tell you best)

If your slow internet connection is caused by being too far away from the wireless access point (WAP), then adding a repeater should help. But as you pointed out, a repeater that is not plugged into the wired connection will chop your available bandwidth in half.

But, if your slow Internet connection is caused by -- as you put it -- all the bandwidth being eaten up by their wired connections, then adding a repeater isn't going to do anything -- even if its directly connected to a wired connection. There is only so much bandwidth available. If your housemates are using it all up, then you're not going to get anymore by adding a repeater, your own WAP, or even your own router.

Your best bet will be to call your ISP and pay for more bandwidth, or call your ISP and buy a second Internet connection and put the router in your room.

Do you have permission to use the WiFi? If not tough. If yes talk to your housemate about a compromise for everyone and move the router again.
