The touch just need wi-fi to be able to access the internet. So as long as you have wireless internet in your house you would be fine.

Yo mate !!!
iPod touch doesn't have a built-in internet connection for you but what it has certain mini devices fitted within the ipod that lets you get connected with internet connection that you have got with your router....
and your second answer on how does it gets connected to the internet is with built-in wireless antennas that help you send and receive data using your own broadband internet connection that you use with a wireless router.....
all places which allow you to have internet access have broadband routers on them which gives connectivity within certain radius....for example like all routers have minimum of 200m connectivity as it seems to be in a 2 story house....
hope u are not confused and buy the gadget....
its not worth I believe from reviews from reputed journals....

if you want to use the internet at home, you would need a router so that you can have access to WIFI which is the only connection the ipod touch has. the speed of you internet depends on your wifi signal and your internet connection.

you can also use it at wifi hotspots in public places. Max's has one, starbucks, other coffee shops, restaurants, and some bookstores have them. but most of their connections are secured, meaning you need to ask one of the clerks at the store for their password. dont worry, if you're eating at their restaurant or something, they'll give it to you.
