Only the one JOHN DOE will see it. Other JOHN DOE's will not see it. When you select that name in the privacy settings, only the one person will see it.

If I had a friend on Facebook and I wanted to only let SAM HARRIS see my status, they would be the only one in my friends list to see it. Others also called SAM HARRIS will not see it. It's limited to one SAM HARRIS or JOHN DOE, not all people with the same first and last name.
