google webmaster tools preferred domain question?
Ok so I read about selecting a domain for google webmaster tools and I decided to choose www because the majority of the pages on my site were already indexed as such but there were definitely quite a few that were the other way.

I made a new site in webmaster tools because I read it was best to leave the other one without a preferred domain in there to see if everything went to plan because the pages should start to be de-indexed soon but I am confused by what is happening. so here is what is happening now:

I have two sites in there, one is domain.com and the other is http://www.domain.com
both of them have their preferred domain set to www.
My entire website autoredirects everything to www.

The impressions on both of them are the same, they look to be getting the same amount of impressions. But my impressions have plummeted. Sad

The indexed pages are different, and they seem to be behaving differently even since I uploaded new sitemaps.

If both have their preferred domain set to www. then why would stats be different? is google seeing these as different sites still? How is any of this possible if my server is redirecting everything to www. anyway?

I'm really confused about this and just want to get it solved so my impressions go back up to what they used to be.

Thanks

So now I have
Yes, I don't see how that has anything to do with my problem. Google is supposed following any and all links to my site with the www since I made the switch to the preferred domain.

My question is relating to how there could still be stats and crawls of the non-www in GW when it shouldn't even be going there in the first place.

You need to check your internal links first. From https://support.google.com/webmasters/an...en&hlrm=fr :

"Once you tell us your preferred domain name, we use that information for all future crawls of your site and indexing refreshes. For instance, if you specify your preferred domain as http://www.example.com instead."

Most of the webmasters prefer NON-WWW. You can redirect www to non-www. For setting in webmaster tools without any error must see Mybloggerstuff
