How long should should my web designer developer take?
I have someone building a website for me using Wordpress. We discussed a lot - he's great with emails.

We finalized all 11 pages (home page, user page, sign in page, etc) and how it'll look using detailed concept images I made. Now it is 14 days later and he still hasn't sent me full PSD design files for the pages to look over before going into development/plugins/customization to actually make the site.

My question is - how long should it take him? I feel like he's taking forever to do this just this design part of it. How long should building/customizing the site once he's finished with the PSD's take?
Okay, thanks. I guess my view of how fast work could be accomplished is a little bit off. And yes, I am paying him but am still feeling okay with his work up till now. He's an excellent communicator - which I've found to be rare. I think (i hope) he's just trying to get everything right. I guess 14 days isn't that long, but I thought to take already existing concepts and create them in PSD it wouldn't be as cumbersome a process as needing a month to do.

You should be asking your developer. How can we help you when we don't know your situation, your developer, your contract, etc.?

A full website should take 1-2 months if its simple (if it's wordpress it should be). 3-5 months if it's complex. If your developer has acomplished nothing in 2 weeks I'd be a bit wary. Luckily, you haven't paid him yet right?

To fully roll out a Wordpress site like what you describe based on your description I would say in the order of 4 to 6 weeks-maybe 8.

The first thing I do when I design/layout a site is do ALL the graphics ( make the custom ones, crop, edit and sharpen photos) This leads to a better workflow as you get into the actual creation of individual pages. Working with graphics in Photoshop is time consuming; depending on how you want these graphics incorporated into the site that could potentially lead to a lot of tinkering with the php files in the WP theme itself-( Most can be done by editing the CSS code but it can happen ).. You don't mention written content either ( have you done/will do this or is he doing it )?,,,that's more time. Eventually there will be also be hold ups when he wants to check with you on certain things ( naturally, not everyone sits at their computer 24/7 to see an email, or beside their phone ) Configuration of the plug-ins takes time..some of them are "buggy"; especially when the Wordpress platform itself is updated - if the plug-ins' developers aren't on the ball releasing updates you can spend an hour configuring one only to find out it doesn't actually work ( or in worst- case- scenario it messes up your other ones )

Any webmaster worth his (or her) salt probably isn't working on just one thing either; I'm guessing you want the Wordpress platform so you can update the site yourself going forward-about 1/8 of my sites are Wordpress or Joomla which means for every 1 client I have doing their own updates I have 7 who don't - so my phone rings fairly often with a client on the other end who has a new picture they want on their site "right now" or clients even call you when they forget their facebook password (you'd be surprised how many calls like that I get) So that's a little insight into the world of webmastering...be patient...he'll get it I'm sure.

The speed of web designer to finish their job depends on how frequent the client ask for changes to be made on the project. It's truly depends on either the client wants the quality or the quantity for the finalized product. It might take 5 to 7 weeks as preparing the site assets, debugging and refining the code consume a lot of time. Do bear this in mind as web designer are still in artistic league which they want things to be as good/perfect as possible when they perform their job.
