Would a DVD streamer work?
I have loads of DVDs on an external HD. (Yes, I own the originals). I want to watch them on my TV as its a bigger screen.
I would rather not have to move my PC around, so.... Can I connect straight to the TV, without a PC Would using something like chromecast work, or western digital's play box. Is there a dedicated "box" for storing movies and playing them without the need of a PC. Like there is for CDs. Any other ideas , tips or advice would be appreciated. Ads |

SmartTVs do that... via a USB input... if you tv has it then go to storage device...
Google chrome only works with viewing things in Chrome web Browser. you can get a device that has a USB input on one end and a HDMI output on the other end. Here's one for $33 http://www.amazon.com/1080P-HDMI-Multi-M...B006LEYQK4 Ads |

I recommend you check out a media streaming solution such as Plex (https://plex.tv).
You install Plex on your PC, point it to your media files on your external HDD and then you need a streaming box that supports Plex attached to your TV and on the same network as your PC. If you're TV is a fairly new smart TV, you may find a Plex app available for it (there is on my Samsung, for example). I use a Popcorn Hour (http://www.cloudmedia.com) as my streaming box, but there are many cheaper ones available that support Plex such as Roku and even Google Chromecast. You can also stream over DLNA if your TV (or attached DVD player etc) supports it. Plex goes out to the internet to pull down the information about movies and TV shows and gives you a nice interface to access it all. |
