Cloud storage is generally storage of data files (mail, docs etc) on a server located in another place or perhaps owned by another firm. If you are storing mail in your mail box, it would be a file structure specifically set up for storing mail..perhaps the actual mail server but not necessarily.

Cloud storage means that the data can be spread across many servers in many locations (rather than just on one server in one data centre). This means that storage is cheaper and can be dynamically sized. It is possible you mail box is stored in this way (as it is for Yahoo / GMail etc).
