Many wiki entries have external links at the end, is it ok to link to a Facebook page, an "unofficial" website?

I've never seen a link to FB but I have seen plenty of links to what folks have called an unofficial site of/for whatever. So if an unofficial site is acceptable then can one also link to a Facebook page directly relating to the wiki entry in question? Thanks.

Yeah, that's perfectly fine. I've done it on a lot of articles and never had any complaints

In the final analysis, the link on WikiP has to lead to a Verifiable source.

I wouldnt put anything on WP that's not Verifiable.

Only if you are a Wikipedia admin. In that case, you know the right WP:DSPPs with which to justify yourself. Otherwise, a Wikipedia admin will come along and use those same WP:DSPPs to justify deleting your links to unofficial websites.

It might be OK, but be prepared to back up your link with arguments why the Facebook page is a valuable link. Wikipedians are fairly strict when it comes to external links: we try to keep the external links to a minimum of high-value sites. Official websites usually make it because they're so relevant to the subject at hand, but unofficial websites can be valuable too!

Since your link is on Facebook, that discounts it somewhat—normally, links to social-networking sites are avoided. This doesn't mean that your link should be completely avoided, but it does mean that you ought to be able to supply good reasons why it should be included.

Without knowing the link you have in mind, I won't be more specific, but I think that you'll find Wikipedia's external links guideline useful: < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:E...at_to_link > summarizes the page well.

I'll copy the three most important points directly from the guideline:

• Is the site content accessible to the reader?
• Is the site content proper in the context of the article (useful, tasteful, informative, factual, etc.)?
• Is the link functional and likely to remain functional?
