Private hostel conditions (prospective student) + tv?
Hello! I'm from Mauritius and am planning to do my undergraduate studies in India, starting this year. I've heard that the academic year begins in June/July. I'll probably go to Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi depending on where I get admission. I'd like to know if in a private hostel I have a separate electricity meter so that I can use my laptop computer and other devices. How much does an Internet connection cost in India? Also, I speak speak a little Tamil, but not Hindi, so I'd like to know also if in India also we get subtitles on Hindi movies on TV, is there some kind of satellite TV network for that, please?

India and Mauritius has centuries old cultural and traditional ties.
there are so many types and budget available for a student. e.g. in Mumbai, the university itself offers its own hostel within its campus at Kalina. usually, all rooms are well wired electrically. and allows students to use their laptops and mobile hand sets and don't charge extra.
again, there are many service providers for internet. different providers for different states or regions. so different structures of tariff will be applicable for same type of account with different providers or different tariffs by same providers.
before you move, you must realize that India is a very big country. and has as many as 16 officially acknowledged national languages. but you can't expect everyone to know all of them. if you know a little Tamil, it will be some what helpful in Tamilnadu state and its neighboring states. but for rest of India, it will be of no use. but in case of Hindi, it will be most useful to you throughout India. for English, in all major cities people speak or understand English.
for your interest in Hindi movies, i appreciate it. but have you ever seen in England or USA, Hindi subtitles in English movies? don't expect in India too. and throughout India, all tv network is satellite network. if you wish to watch foreign tv show, you pay for the same and enjoy.
wish you a pleasant stay and good study in India.
