Do you think that the future of video games is multiplayer/ online only?
Do you think that we are coming up to a time where most games are going to become either only multiplayer or you have to have an online connection at all times?

Some of the games that are coming out for the new consoles have specification that require you to constantly be connected to the internet to play, such as Titanfall and Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warefare.

Do you think a large majority of games will start focusing little on the campaign (only a couple of missions) and more on the multiplayer capabilities?

For example, if Call of Duty or Battlefield would get rid of their campaign completely. How many people would actually be heart broken and refuse to buy the game? Not many I'm guessing.

In a time where playing with friends/ people online is becoming extremely popular, do you think that games would benefit or get hurt from multiplayer/ online only?

What I think is that they're gonna focus on something specific in their game, like only single player or only online. I may be wrong though.

If games become nothing but online multiplayer only, then it would kill the game industry as we know it; sure, it's fun to play online with other people and battle with others, but without a game with a story or single player mode, they would be cutting out a huge part of what made games as popular as they are today, the single player. Video games like GTA or COD would be just plain violent video games without stories and objectives; even if the story is crappy, a reason for the violence justifies the meaning of the game, so non-gamer people won't see them as just plain competitive and repetitive violent games.

With nothing but online multiplayer video games, people without online connections would be forced off the gaming communities and great franchises such as Mario, Uncharted, Final Fantasy, or lots more story driven games would be gone.

Short answer no,

Long answer kind of. The video game industry is changing and with all new consoles having the ability to run games directly from the hard drives, game publishers are even more concerned with piracy. So some games are requiring an online connection at all times not for your benefit, but just to verify the game being played is not pirated. Because of this I think we will see more games requiring an online connection in the future.

As far as a multiplayer only future I don't think so. There's just far too many genres of games out there and mutiplayer simply does not fit for all of them. I do see however most if not all games in the future having some sort of online connectivity such as showing your high score to your friends, beat this person's best lap time, beat your friend's kill streak ect. But all games Co Op and Multiplayer? No.
