Life Events on Facebook?

So I was curious about the life events on facebook. I've never touched that setting in my life and I don't know if it just automatically adds events without selecting it manually. Did I at some point had to of added it or is it just automatic?

You need to add a life event and it is not automatic. There are several categories like new job, new home, birth, anniversary and education where you need to choose and upload few photos along with the info about the event
