Why don't I gain any space when I delete stuff from my macbook?

if mac is has a recycle bin or something you have to empty that in order to get your space.

Do this...
– Get Info for the startup disk (select it, press command I).
– Write down the "Capacity" and multiply by 0.15.
– Launch Activity Monitor.
– Select the "System Memory" tab near the bottom.
– Write down the amount for "Swap used", and then double it.
– Add the 15% to doubled Swap used.

The result is how much stuff you need to trash... and then empty the trash.
