I believe they split advertisement clicks. I'm more familiar with the similar site Hubpages, which may not be exploited as heavily by the marketer crowd, they hive you 60% of the ad clicks, you have to get your own Adsense, Amazon or Ebay affiliate accounts, since Hubpages does not directly pay you. I got a $100 check from Google several years after posting about 6 articles on Hubpages.
