Screen freeze "detecting internet connection speed" Why ?

using Yahoo launch, I can't get past the screen saying " detecting internet connection speed" on IE6 and Firefox. yahoo have made suggestions but they don't work, Help please.

do you have SP2, it could posibly be the browser blocking some kinda flash or plugin, delete your cache, cookies etc, then attempt to sign in again, see what happens, also set your browser secruity to "low" see if it change's anything.
