Is it so bad that I'm against exposing my private life on social media?
7 years ago, I joined Facebook and like most people, I was so happy to find long lost friends and relatives and share so many ideas and get a glimpse into the lives of strangers. I even became narcissistic and found myself fawning over my pretty photos, and the compliments I received. It got to a point where I cared too much about Facebook, and felt like I had to compete with my fake friends in some ridiculous popularity contest. I grew tired of it and visited the site less and less. Because I'm a web reporter, I have to stay on Facebook to social monitor trends. I know use social media to share interesting articles once in a while. It amazes me how a lot of people overshare and post every detail of their private life. I recently got engaged and only told my closed ones. No Facebook photo or announcement. I don't plan too. My private life is private. Many people I know who found out I was engaged were practically scandalized that I refuse to post new photos of my fiancé and I and of our upcoming wedding. Some even called me a sociopath when I said I refused to expose my private life online. Practically all my friends ( even the smart ones) end up sharing personal photos of romantic dinners or baby pics, as if to find validation or promote their happy relationship. They made fun of me for posting nothing even on Valentine"s day ( who cares, really?). I'm happy and I don't need the world to know what my fiancé does for me or the gifts I receive. They tell me not to resist because eventually everyone will do it. I value privacy. What is so wrong with wanting to preserve your privacy?

It's not bad!

All social media is public.. crap you put on there will never be deleted. Facebook saves a copy of all photos you uploaded even if you delete them.. Just wait until they finish their facial recognition features. I want to be able to search for a person's name and find all their photos and videos on youtube, porntube, and every other tube out here.

Lol no its fine. No one needs to know your business. Its okay to want to keep certain things private. Besides, when you post pictures people always make opinions about it. Sometimes its good but other times its bad. You shouldn't have to deal with that. If posting pictures of your love life makes you uncomfortable then you shouldn't do it. Your REAL friends will understand or at least respect your decision

Nothing wrong with it at all. It shows you're smart.

Even insurance commercials on TV are urging users to be careful what they post, since burglars, sexual predators, con artists, and other dregs of our society are using social media to select their victims nowadays.
