It might sound like a stupid question, but I'm really paranoid about this sort of thing.

In General no. As long as your browser and Windows updates are current it should be ok. Viruses can be spread by message sending and by links to malicious sites, but generally sites like FB and other social media are safe.

No, but their is some security option in the fb setting which help users for more secure. Some time user forget that fb setting and then they face problem even that is not a problem that is a security functionality provided by fb.
