My PC auto-initiated an update to Norton 360. Something went horribly wrong, and Norton indicated an 8504,104 error, and quit working. It indicated I should download Norton Power Eraser, and use it to blow away my current installation of Norton 360. Then go to the Norton website and download a new (repaired?) copy of 360. The PROBLEM is when I try to connect to the internet, Mozilla Firefox says Can’t Establish a Connection to (any) Internet Server.
So the first thing I need help with is how to reestablish connection to the internet. Suggestions, please?
To clarify: I agree deleting Norton will be necessary. But does doing so restore my internet connection? (And I agree Norton is going off my machines permanently.)
Sorry to be so thick about this, but once I am in safe mode with networking, how do I issue the commands to download and run Norton removal tool? Typing in https...etc doesn't work.

-Go into safe mode (normally tapping f8 as soon as the screen displays anything will do this. Note: When on the screen to select safe mode, you MUST use the arrow keys and enter. The mouse doesn't work there)

-Download the Norton Removal Tool https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home...file_en_us

-Run Norton Removal tool

-Reboot (part of NRT process) and internet should be fine. Reinstall Norton

either disable Norton protection, not sure how you disable it as i haven't used Norton products in years.

online search suggests 'right click on the NIS icon in the taskbar and select Disable Smart Firewall' and you can also disable antivirus from there aswell.

you should then be able to use your internet and download the uninstaller, or the latest virus definitions which might have been updated and sort the issue out.

a restart of the computer might also work, some antivirus programs have this scenario in mind and put in an emergency boot updater that usually sorts the issue out aswell.

if none of this works. start in Safe Mode With Networking.

start the computer, Keep pressing F8 on startup (even if it beeps) and select 'safe mode with networking', you should then be able to do what you need.
