Can I be sued or prosecuted for calling a real paedophile, a paedophile?
I have known this person for 2 or 3 years and in the past year it has become apparent that he is infact, a paedophile. He used to upload picture of children in bikinis onto facebook and always caused arguments with people on the site, he always made the arguments sexual also, he has since been banned from the site. Although it didnt stop, He invited me to a skype call one day and he was trying to be suggestive to a girl in his age group, he even begged her to have sex with him. A few minutes later either him or the other girl had added someone else into the call, he promptly asked the girl how old she was and she stated that she was 7 years of age. He then asked her to have sex with him and when she got upset and refused he threatened rape on the girl. One of my friends as also quoted him to have said that he would love to 'Fuck' a dead 6 yr old, male or female. I have heard one more rumour of him telling someone he would 'Fuck' anything, weather it be an animal or a human, dead or alive, male or female and of any age. he has also done alot more. I was asked if i wanted to talk to him the other day by my friend and I said I didnt want to because he is a paedophile. The paedo then proceeded to contact me anyway and sent abuse to me, I then called him a paedophile and said that he shouldnt contact me if he doesnt like my opinion. He is now apparently trying to contact the police to have me arrested, is this likely or possible, since I have reason to believe he is a paedophile.

Unless he has been convicted of anything then he technically isn't a peadophile. Anyway if he did report it the police would be interested in why you called him one and would seize his computer.
You should report him yourself.

Hopefully the truth will come out and if he is he will be dealt with and if he isn't you will be dealt with.

Hm you might want to have him investigated by the proper authorities. It's never good to have a 'suspected' pedophile roaming about society. I think we'd all like to know firmly, not just think to be safe.

You should have reported him. As it is, the police can do nothing to you, but he could sue you for defamation. Whether he would win is another matter.

If he is a paedophile he will not report you to the police or sue you - because the truth of your statement is your defence.

If he isn't a paedophile he may well report you, and you could be in big trouble - but that would be fair if you really have falsely accused him of such a heinous crime.

From what you say, he IS a paedophile and telling the truth is never a crime. So if he reports you to the police, you tell them all this and HE is in trouble. He might try to sue you for defamation, but this is a rich man's game and once again, your defence is that you are right.

@Jellybean - so you aren't a paedophile unless you have abused a child? REALLY?
