I don't think I can be a scientist?
I'm not exactly the smartest bean out there. People think that I'm good at everything but that's because they compare me to the other kids that don't try . I love science. I really, really love it . I like algebra and other aspects of math too but I'm not smart enough. Last semester I had a terrible science teacher and I taught myself science . I worked my butt off just to get a 90 on my report card for science. This semester. my math teacher sucks too. I was supposed to have one of the best teachers of our department for math but my schedule changed and the teacher I have now pretty much sucks. I like to learn and understand concepts, not memorize them. This is why I love science. I get to understand how things work . Physics was probably the hardest to teach my self because my teacher would never explain connections, she would just tell us things and not go in depth with it. I spent 3 days trying to figure out exactly what voltage is and another 3 to figure out the relationship between the three measurements required in Ohm's law ( v,r and I ).

Math is now hard very for me because the teacher wont explain concepts so half the time I'm just here like 'what' because she tells us the rules but she doesn't tell us the differences between two rules ..etc and I get confused. I taught my self algebra too. I go to one of the worst schools in the district but I don't live under the boundaries of any other school. I really want to be a scientist like my whole life practically depends on it. I love art and computers too. I love creating things on the computer. I don't think I can be a scientist. I've been told I need a 97 average to be a scientist but I'm just here stuck with an 89 and I'm in grade 9 right now - the grade where everything is easy. I'm thinking about either becoming a volcanologist and teaching at a university or taking on something that has a more job opportunities - climatology. How do I raise my average ? I hate teaching my self. It's so hard to do. Last semester I had to teach my self and my class as well cause our science teacher wouldn't teach us. They put me in a group chat on facebook and asked me to teach them. I thought it would help me too so I helped them but that put me under more stress :/ I'm definitely not a genius or any thing along those lines, could I still become a scientist ? What could I do to get at least a 96 average ? I need so much detail to understand something. Right now I was drawing the border for something I had to draw and I only measured the amount of space from left to right and top to bottom for one side of my border and didn't measure after that cause i didn't have to . I stopped half way through trying to understand why I didn't have to measure like that for the rest of the lines :\ . I'm weird Sad

You could always be a scientist for some other science field like for e.g., a marine biologist, a biologist, space scientist, chemist. Those type of things

Some people just have to work their butt off to get good grades. The fact that you seem to be trying so hard is great. Go talk to someone who may be able to help you. And tell them that the teachers don't seem to be helping. Or, go straight to your teachers, and ask them for clarification. Smile

Hi:

1) to be a scientist you need 2 things - curiousty and a willingness to learn.

Which you got in spades. You can be anything you want to be.
And you are willing to teach your self. So pal , welcome you are already a scientist.

Some facts

One time in the 1930 a student told his teacher that x-ray where at a wavelength
Small enough that they interacted with atoms of substances that they gave specific patterns for any given substance that you could indentfy a substance by it. Quess what the treacher did - told the student he was nuts and threw his manuscript in the trash. The student later recovered it. Took to a famous scientist who published it and the student got a Nobel prize for it

In 2010 a arabic student wrote a mathematical proof solving one of the supposely unsolved theorem in math . Told his teacher about it. The teacher thought I was impossible for him to do that. But to humor him he sent it to the university of Sweden for higher mathematics- quess what happened after reviewing it 5 times the said he solved it. He even got a Nobel metal for it.

There are countless examples. So Don't give up. Instead Go for it.

Remember: If you got to jump off a cliff. Why not shoot for flying off it..

All scientists are weird. Because they see the way the world really works and can see and do the impossible.

I hope this helps.
